The forests are usually dense and home to the large mammals mentioned above, and have a broad range of evergreens in them, in addition to vegetation indigenous to rain forests. Deforestation happens, but not as frequently as in other Southeast Asian countries. Although the Vietnam War cleared most areas of vegetation, plant life has begun to revive.
