AGRO-TOURISM THAILAND |

Agro-Tourism In Thailand Agriculture dominated the economy. The Tourism Authority of Thailand has for many years embraced the concept of sustainable tourism that has been gaining ground all over the world. More recently, it has taken things a step further with the promotion of a new related category, agro- tourism. Agro-tourism covers a wide range of agriculture-related activities about which visitors learn and can try out for themselves. Rice farming, flower growing, vegetable and herb cultivation and livestock farming are just a few examples. Exposure is usually gained in leisurely fashion, such as by joining picturesque canal tours or strolling through shady fruit orchards (and tasting the fruits right from the trees) and working rice farms. Also supporting the agro-tourism are all the agricultural research and study centres scattered throughout the country. Visitors are allowed to tour the centres, watch the demonstrations or take part in the hands-on activities
Agro-Tourism and Eco-Tourism are closely related, although in reality Agro-Tourism is something all farms could have, while Eco-Tourism seems to have been promoted by the tour companies. Agro Tourism is when a native person or local of the area offers tours to their Agriculture Farm to allow a person to view them growing, harvesting, and processing locally grown foods, such as coconuts, pineapple, sugar cane, corn, or any produce the person would not encounter in their home country. Often the farmers would provide a home-stay opportunity and education.
Opportunities to take agro-tours are offered the length and breadth of Thailand, from northern hilltribe areas to the fruit orchards of Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat, and all they way down to sea fishing villages in the deep south. People need to earn money to live and support their family, but often this is at the cost of the environment and the planet. Agro Tourism and Eco-tourism are alternatives to such harmful practices as slash and burn farming, dynamite fishing, destruction of rain forest or primary growth jungle and trees.
Thailand has a great opportunity to promote eco-tourism, especially when compared to other countries in the Asia region. The kingdom enjoys such benefits as easy access, sophisticated infrastructure and myriad tourist attractions and activities. Meanwhile, the income derived from the tourism-related activities will channel directly to people in the target areas as well as help promoting good understanding between local communities and tourists in the long run.
Agro Tour with local farmer continue their daily normal works and guests enjoy participating in the village farming activities. As you would be staying as a family member with your host family, you can participate in all activities of their daily choirs. The friendly and hearty behaviors of the family members gives you a different experience that you have never enjoyed before. The tour gives you the chances to explore the real villages unlike having spent short time in different villages on trek.
