Mt. Kailash is claimed to be the apex of the Hindu religious axis is also one of the highest mountain in Tibet at 22,022 feet. This mountain is also known as Tise, Kailasa & Kang Rinpoche(Jewel of the Snows), has since time immemorial been celebrated in many Eastern cosmologies as Mt. Meru, the axis mundi. And as the center of the physical & metaphysical universe, Mt. Meru is sacred to the Buddhist, Jains, the Hindus & the Bonpos. It is the perfect mountain with awesome beauty, with 4 great faces. In the same periphery of this sacred mountain, twin lakes of Mansarovar at 14,950 feet and Rakshas Taal are situated which are supposedly a place for heavenly ablution as on it still people can observe god and goddess taking an ablution. The circumbulation of Mt Kailash is an important pilgrimage for Hindus, Buddhistats and Jains. Hindus perforn a parikarama, Buddhistas call it a Kora. The Kora is a three day circumambulation of the holy mountain, crossing the 5630m Drolma La en route and taking in various sites of religious significance along the way. Tibetan Buddhists believe that a single kora washes away the sins of one life and that 108 circuits secure nirvana in this life. All our fixed departure tours are based on the full moon days to view the mountain in its full glory & majesty. The festival of Saga Dawa on the full moon of the fouth Tibetan month is considered as the excellent time to be at Kailash as the place is packed with Tibetan pilgrims from across the country. We are probably one of the few outfits in Nepal that provide Nepali Sherpa staff support for the entire arrangements so as to ensure that you receive the similar high quality trip services that exist in Nepal. We begin our tour to the "the spiritual centre" early in the morning driving to the Nepal/Tibet border town of Zhangmu where we collect our Transport. We drive via Zhangmu following the southern route where the scenery, with its sweeping plains, sand dunes & the Himalaya range is more majestic and after the completion of the circumbulation, we return by the same route. The outlined tour program has been worked out as under with the sheduled dates: |
