Thimphu lies in a wooded valley, sprawling up a hillside on the west bank of the Wang Chhu. Capital to the tiny Himalayan kingdom Bhutan, Thimphu is perhaps the smallest capital in the world. Thimphu is a gallery of traditional Bhutanese art, architecture, culture, and tradition and above all still so ethnic and pure. Thimphu has excellent trekking routes of different levels giving you ample opportunities for hiking, trekking, river rafting, and wildlife excursions. Full of wonderful restaurants and delighful shops stocked with items from all over Bhutan. Hand woven textiles, woodcarving, tailor made clothing, jewelry. It is often said that Thimphu is the only world capital without traffic lights.

 

The town of Paro(2280m) lies in the centre of the valley on the banks of the Paro Chhu. It is is one of Bhutan's most impressive and well-known dzongs, and the finest example of Bhutanese architecture. The inward-sloping walls form a massive structure that towers over the town and is visible as a great white monolith from vantage points throughout the valley. The dzong's correct name, Rinchen Pung Dzong, means 'fortress on a heap of jewels.

DAY 02 PARO - THIMPHU
Morning drive to the old ruins have Drukyel Dzong and a visit to the Ta-Dzong, National
Museum. After lunch a 2 hour drive to Thimphu. On the way visit the Simtokha Dzong built in
1627 by Shabdrung Nawang Namgyel. O/N in Thimphu. (B/L/D)

 

DAY 03 SIGHTSEEING IN THIMPHU
Sightseeing tour of the memorial chorten, Indigenous Hospital, Dupthop Nunnery. Lunch at Plum s Cafe. After lunch visit the Handicraft Emporium and then Tashichodzong. A fare well party will be hosted. O/N in Thimphu. (B/L/D)

 

DAY 04 THIMPHU - PARO - KATHMANDU
Early morning drive to Paro for departure to Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel.  (B)
